Every June, many come together to celebrate Pride Month, which highlights the achievements of the fight for LGBTQ equality all over the world. With Pride month, we remember the 1969 Stonewall Riots that took place in Manhattan, and we remember the landmark 2015 Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges that legalized same-sex marriage throughout the United States. As a nation, we have come far in terms of granting equality and fundamental rights to all, however, there is still a long way to go.
At Scenarios USA, we believe that everyone should have a voice, no matter their race, class, gender identity, or sexual orientation. We are celebrating Pride by giving you access to our free, exclusive LGBTQ YouTube film playlist, curricula and lesson plans, events, and resources below. Join us!
Our Pride Playlist on YouTube Includes:
House Not Home (15:03)
House Not Home is a firsthand account of Terran, an African American gender fluid teenager navigating bullying, violence and rejection from their father and peers before finding their courage and voice to come out. Written by Skyler Edge, and directed by Joshua Butler.
Man In The Mirror (17:03)
Jason Gutierrez is a Puerto Rican from New York City and the quintessential all-American guy. Status comes at a price as rumors spread that Jason is gay. With his identity questioned, Jason is pushed to understand who he is and prove how far he will go to prove that he’s just “one of the boys.” This film was written by Treviny Marie Colon and directed by Joel Schumacher.
Veracity (19:37)
Veracity is about a popular African American student, Olivia, who is outed by her friends after she acts on feelings for a new girl at her high school. Written by Janaya Greene when she was a high school senior on the South Side of Chicago, Veracity explores the tensions and stigma of being gay in the Black community. Veracity was directed by Seith Mann (Walking Dead, Homeland).
Who I Am (17:39)
Two young women confront their sexuality at the crossroads of race and class. The film addresses stereotypes, racism, and homophobia. This film was written by Whitney Peters from Miami, Florida and directed by Jesse Peretz (Our Idiot Brother, Girls).

Event: The Pride Kickoff Rally
Date: June 24, 2016
Location: Hudson River Park, Pier 26
Time: 7 PM
About: Before the glittery spectacle of the LGBT Pride March and the rest of the Gay Pride Weekend festivities, get pumped up…with a glittery spectacle! This official Gay Pride Weekend opening event started as a “gay power” demonstration with 500 protestors in Washington Square Park a month after the 1969 Stonewall riots, considered the dawn of the modern gay-rights movement. Since then the rally has jumped locations all over town, including incarnations in Central Park and East River Park. Big-name performers often take the stage—Lady Gaga performed in 2013—while local politicians, comedians, and other members of the LGBT community offer both serious and silly takes on Pride themes. For newcomers and longtime Pride celebrants alike, the Pride Kickoff Rally serves as both a party starter and a reminder that it’s not all about partying.
