5) Through the Curriculum - I’ve learned to think critically about myself, about why I write what I write.

4) On the Film Set - Working on the set of Man in the Mirror allowed me the experience of seeing a director work with actors and opened my mind to the practical application of dramatic writing. It helped me discover what my main concerns as a dramatist are. The use of art as social justice and as means of exposing social issues has found its way into so many of my recent scripts.

3) Through a Scenarios Mentorship – I was partnered with a Writer’s Guild of America East Foundation professional writer, Janet Brenner.  It was the first time I met with someone who genuinely liked my writing and thought I could do something with it.

2) As part of the Scenarios USA Youth Leadership & Advocacy Institute in Chicago – I have accessed a network of smart, kind and ambitious alumni who have helped broaden my knowledge of oppression and social justice.

1) Learning the importance of saying “YES” – The idea that being open to new experiences can make the difference between finding and not finding your passion, providing a variety of experiences so that we can have those moments of great realization.
